Catholic Relief Services and Peepoople collaborate to provide sanitation in Dadaab
June 29, 2012
Situated in Eastern Kenya, Dadaab is the largest refugee camp in the world; hosting over 460,000 refugees. During the 2011 Horn of Africa drought a massive influx of refugees poured into the camps from Somalia, further stretching infrastructure and services far beyond the original intended capacity of the camps.
Peepoople is now collaborating with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) on a pilot and evaluation of the Peepoo solution in the rural refugee camp environment, with particular focus on the most vulnerable groups, such as elderly, handicapped and children. The project was initiated in the Kambioos camp in April 2012 where the majority of the refugees are Somali pastoralists.
