ICCO & KIA and Peepoople agress to cooperate in humanitarian response in Pakistan
June 5, 2012In May ICCO & KIA Pakistan together with its three implementing partners RFD (Research & Development Foundation), PFF (Pakistan Fisher Folk) and SRSP (Serhad Rural Support Program) signed an MOU with Peepoople to provide sanitation for poor disaster affected communities in Pakistan.
“We see Peepoo as an ideal solution for the most vulnerable, women and their children, providing dignity, encouraging safe sanitation practices and thereby preventing the spread of diseases”, says Rubina Ali, heading ICCO & KIA in Pakistan.
The cooperation includes building emergency response capacity for minimum 10,000 families (about 70,000 beneficiaries) for at least three months, and the implementation of the Peepoo solution in the event of natural disaster. ICCO & KIA and Peepoople will now jointly work to secure funding for the project to have capacity to respond from 2013 and onwards. Pakistan is one of the world’s most disaster prone countries. The Peepoo solution will be implemented both for immediate relief, and as a transitional solution to catalyse transformation to safe sanitation practices in Pakistan.
